10th Street in Panama City is closed until further notice between West Caroline Boulevard and Lisenby Avenue after a utility failure opened an approximately 12-foot sinkhole.

A stretch of 10th Street in Panama City is closed until further notice after part of the road collapsed into a sinkhole.

The closure runs from just west of West Caroline Boulevard to Lisenby Avenue. The city posted the road closure notice Friday, Oct. 30.

What happened

A utility failure caused a portion of the roadway to collapse, the city said, “resulting in an approximately 12-foot sinkhole.”

The city did not say which utility line failed or when the collapse happened. It did not report any injuries or damage to vehicles.

What crews are doing

The city laid out the repair in two steps:

  • Public Works crews are repairing the damaged utility line now.
  • Once that repair is finished, crews will rebuild the roadway.

The city has not given a reopening date. We will update this story when it does.

What it means for you

  • Use another route. The city asked drivers to avoid the area and stay clear of the work zone.
