Bay County Animal Services has cut adoption fees from $25 to $10 through Saturday, Oct. 31, because the shelter is at capacity. Spay, neuter and microchip included.

Bay County Animal Services is charging $10 to adopt a dog or cat through Saturday, Oct. 31, because the shelter is full.

The usual fee is $25. Bay County announced the cut in a release on its website on Oct. 21. The county is calling it the “No Tricks, Just Treats” Halloween adoption event. It started Thursday, Oct. 22, and runs 10 days.

The county said the shelter is at capacity. Every adoption frees a kennel for another animal.

“Our shelter is full of wonderful dogs and cats waiting for loving homes,” Bay County Animal Services Manager Serina Junger said in the release. “Every adoption helps us make room for another animal that needs our help.”

What the $10 covers

Every pet adopted during the event comes with the same care as a full-price adoption. The county said that includes:

  • age-appropriate vaccinations
  • deworming
  • flea and tick prevention
  • a microchip
  • spay or neuter surgery

The county’s adoptions page adds that dogs are tested for heartworm and cats for FIV and feline leukemia before they go home. It also reminds adopters to register the microchip with the manufacturer, because the chip carries an ID, not a GPS tracker.
