A photo of Panama City Fire Department Driver Engineer Amanda Scoggin fighting a structure fire is the cover of GFWC Florida’s 2027 “Fired Up for Firefighters” calendar.
The City of Panama City announced the honor Wednesday in a release about the calendar. Sales of the calendar raise money to train new firefighters.
A first for the department
Scoggin was the first woman promoted to driver engineer in the department’s history, the city said. She is one of three women now serving as Panama City firefighters.
She has been with the department for 10 years. The city said she:
- is a member and assistant instructor on the Technical Rescue Team
- set up the department’s Honor Guard in 2024
- helped build its therapy dog and Crisis Response K9 programs, which support agencies in Bay County and across Florida
“It is a humbling honor and opportunity to be selected for this project,” Scoggin said. “My greatest hope is that the funds raised will benefit many and allow our departments to continue serving our communities in the best way possible.”
How the photo got picked
GFWC Florida asked its 174 clubs earlier this year to send photos for the 2027 calendar. The GFWC Woman’s Club of Panama City worked with the Fire Department to choose one. Assistant Fire Chief Kent Taylor supplied a set of department photos, and club members picked Scoggin’s.
The photo advanced through the federation’s District 2 before the state organization chose it for the cover.
“It is an amazing photograph of a brave and dedicated firefighter in action,” said Stephanie Cantrell, president of the Woman’s Club of Panama City.
The club plans to keep working with the Fire Department on projects for local firefighters over the next two years, the city said.
