Where it is

The name is used two ways by the city:

  • On the golf cart neighborhoods map, Downtown North is the area between Harrison Avenue and MLK Jr. Boulevard, from 6th Street north to 15th Street. This page uses that area. The City Commission added its streets to the golf cart program on June 10, 2025, under Ordinance No. 3265.
  • The Downtown North Community Redevelopment Area is larger. Its first plan was adopted in 1993, and in March 2008 the City Commission expanded it “from 12th Street North to U.S. Highway 231 between McKenzie Avenue and Mercedes Avenue,” according to the city’s Downtown North CRA page. The city says it covers nearly 2 square miles, including the Greater Glenwood area and Bay Medical Center. Glenwood has its own page.

Most of the area is in ZIP code 32401; the blocks nearest 15th Street are in 32405, according to the Census Bureau’s ZIP code areas. Main roads, with route numbers from OpenStreetMap: Harrison Avenue (U.S. 231), 11th Street (County Road 28), 6th Street (Business U.S. 98), 15th Street (U.S. 98) and MLK Jr. Boulevard.

The city’s CRA and the volunteer group World Changers have repaired homes in Millville and Downtown North for 10 years, and the city says the program returns March 12-17, 2027.
